As you may already be aware if you completed one of Your Energy's consultation cards last year, Your Energy have sold their interest in the Little Waver Wind Farm project to REG, the operator of the neighbouring wind farm at High Pow.
This is unlikely to make much difference to the total number of turbines we will be fighting but we should perhaps consider it good news that we will only have to engage with one developer rather than two.
We are now awaiting REG's announcement of public exhibition dates when their plans will be unveiled.
Meanwhile, FORCE is preparing to comment on Allerdale's draft local plan. I will take this opportunity to remind all members that individual comments are also essential as this is a rare opportunity for us to influence local planning policy.
The draft plan is in two parts: 'Core Strategy' and 'Development Management,' both of which can be downloaded from the following webpage.
The Core Strategy document contains chapters on Housing, Economy, Transport and the Built and Natural Environments. The Economy chapter includes amongst its ten sections
· EC3 Rural Economy and Enterprise
· EC6 Tourism and Leisure
· EC8 Standalone Renewable or Low Carbon Technology
Clearly EC8 is the section most directly concerned with renewable energy and, in particular, wind energy, but policies in some other sections are also important in this context.
In each section, the 'preferred option' for future policy is set out but planners have also included alternative options for consideration. Your response is invited on these and the opportunity is also there for you to suggest yet more options and ideas for the future. Comments on the draft plan should be sent to
to arrive no later than 31st July.
If you know someone who does not have internet access but would like to comment on the local plan, letters can be sent to
Planning Policy Team, Planning Services, Allerdale Borough Council, Allerdale House, Workington, Cumbria, CA14 3YJ
The draft plan will be on display to the public at Allerdale House, Workington, and also at local libraries throughout the consultation period until July 31st. In addition to this, a series of information sessions will be held at different venues throughout the borough where members of the planning team will be available to explain the proposals. These will take place between the hours of 10am and 4pm at the following locations:
June 20th Campbell Sevours Way Workingon
June 22nd Silloth Discovery Centre Silloth
June 26th The Co-op Wigton
June 28th Sainsburys Cockermouth
July 3rd Local Link Centre Aspatria
July 5th Dunmail Park Workington
July 10th The Co-op Maryport
July 12th Campbell Sevours Way Workington
Finally, I would like to draw your attention to a very basic survey which is being carried out on the homepage of Cumbria County Council's website. With fifty energy wind related applications so far this year in Allerdale alone, it is important to get the message across that 'enough is enough.' Please spare a moment to scroll down the page and tick the box which indicates a 'no' to further uncontrolled development.
