The Councillors on the Development Panel for Allerdale Borough Council refused planning permission for a single wind turbine on the edge of the hamlet of Oughterby (near Kirkbampton). The applicant has put in an appeal against this decision. WE are asking for help - in order to stop the decision being overturned and planning permission being granted by the Inspectorate based in Bristol.
Reasons for this plea for help are twofold:-
1. The community of Oughterby fought very hard to persuade the Development Panel to refuse planning permission for the wind turbine. The residents do not want this wind turbine.
2. The applicant is friendly with other applicants for wind turbines in this area – if he gets the decision overturned he will encourage others to appeal if their applications are refused. At the last Development Panel the application at Flatt Farm was refused; there are outstanding decisions to be made on turbine applications in Kirkbampton, Wiggonby, Flatt Farm (another one), Aikton and Wigton. Helping the residents of Oughterby will also have an impact on other applications and possible appeals.
We know that this is a big ask – as the process is more long-winded than writing an objection on the Allerdale web-site. However if you could find the time and a first class stamp – we would be very grateful.
The advice we have been given is – the more letters to the Inspectorate the better.

Reasons for Refusal – by Allerdale
"The proposal by reason of its scale and location would constitute a prominent and intrusive feature within the landscape, adversely impacting on local landscape character and the visual amenities of the locality, both individually and cumulatively with other wind turbines development. The proposal is therefore considered to be contrary to Policy R44 of the Cumbria and Lake District Joint Structure Plan 2001-2016 (Saved)."
Reasons
· The refusal by Development Panel was by a two third majority!
· The Wind Turbine will dominate the hamlet - overwhelming impact
· There is no screening of the wind turbine from Oughterby and the Village Green – site is in an open firld
· The growing number of turbines in this area – we can see the six Great Orton Turbines and a single wind turbine Park House Farm. We will also see the 79m Wind Turbine at Great Orton – once installed
· Sequential cumulative impact when travelling through area
· Loss of Amenity to residents –
· Majority of residents do not want the wind turbine.
· Proposed site is close to a permissive right of way used by many people when walking dogs.
MANY THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS......... AND HOPEFULLY FOR YOUR LETTER
